Dr. Paul Waidelich
Paul Waidelich is a senior researcher with ETH’s Energy and Technology Policy Group. He defended his PhD in June 2024 and works primarily on financing conditions of low-carbon technologies, the role of public financial institutions in the energy transition, as well as the economic and financial impacts of climate change.
Prior to joining the Climate Finance and Policy group, he worked at external page NERA Economic Consulting, advising energy companies, regulators and financial investors on electricity, natural gas, and hydrogen markets. Paul holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the external page University of Heidelberg and a Master of Science in Environmental Economics & Climate Change from the external page London School of Economics and Political Science. During his studies, he was awarded the external page Germany Scholarship as well as additional scholarships by the external page German Academic Scholarship Foundation and the external page German Academic Exchange Service. Previously, he has worked as an intern and research assistant with external page IÖW Berlin and external page FEST Heidelberg, exploring the impacts of mandatory non-financial disclosure in Germany, estimating CO2 inventories, and developing holistic measures of national welfare.
In his spare time, Paul enjoys playing beach volleyball and occasionally participates in poetry slams.
