Paul Waidelich is a PhD candidate at ETH’s Climate Finance and Policy group since May 2021. His research focuses on the financing of climate and renewable energy assets, the economic impacts of climatic shifts, and the regulation of energy industries and networks. An example of his ongoing research includes building a theoretical and empirical assessment of the impacts of green state investment banks and other financial institutions aiming to support the Paris Agreement (GREENFIN project).

Prior to joining the Climate Finance and Policy group, he worked at external pageNERA Economic Consulting, advising energy companies, regulators and financial investors on electricity, natural gas, and hydrogen markets. Paul holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the external pageUniversity of Heidelberg and a Master of Science in Environmental Economics & Climate Change from the external pageLondon School of Economics and Political Science. During his studies, he was awarded the external pageGermany Scholarship as well as additional scholarships by the external pageGerman Academic Scholarship Foundation and the external pageGerman Academic Exchange Service. Previously, he has worked as an intern and research assistant with external pageIÖW Berlin and external pageFEST Heidelberg, exploring the impacts of mandatory non-financial disclosure in Germany, estimating CO2 inventories, and developing holistic measures of national welfare.

In his spare time, Paul enjoys playing beach volleyball and occasionally participates in poetry slams.
