Valeria de los Casares is a doctoral candidate at the Climate Finance & Policy (CFP) research group at ETH Zurich since January 2024. As part of the GREENFIN project, she conducts research on the role and effectiveness of climate-related financial policies in aligning financial flows with the objectives of the Paris Agreement.

Prior to joining CFP, Valeria worked as a research assistant for external pagethe European Chair for Sustainable Development and Climate Transition at Sciences Po, looking at EU climate policy, particularly around the European Green Deal. Here, she conducted research on governance and financing barriers to implementing nature-based solutions and wrote two working papers on the subject. She also has experience as a teaching assistant and as a junior ESG consultant. Furthermore, during her early academic studies, she became fascinated with the world of policymaking (thanks to an inspiring undergraduate class led by Prof Marianna Mazzucato at UCL) and consequently carried out traineeships in such field, at the external pageOrganisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) and the Counsellor of Agriculture and Environment at the external pageSpanish embassy in London.

Valeria holds a master’s degree in Economics and Public Policy from external pageSciences Po Paris and a bachelor’s degree in Economics and business from external pageUniversity College London (UCL).

In her spare time, Valeria can be found travelling Europe by train on the weekends to visit old friends and trying new restaurants, museums and cafes. She also enjoys going to concerts and doing all sorts of arts and crafts activities. Most recently, she is trying to adapt to life in Switzerland and is on a quest to become an “outdoors person” (in order to fully profit from the beautiful nature and landscapes).
